Versatility

VersaBar^® provides the ultimate in versatility because a single high performance shank can be used for multiple applications, not just one. Choose from 38 different head options, and RH and LH mount to the same shank. You'll have just what you need to tackle any challenge. Head change is fast and easy using one coupling screw. VersaBar^® heads are universal in that they mount to inch or metric shank (of similar size), making VersaBar^® ideal for manufacturer's with international locations that have CNC's utilizing both inch and metric shanks.

Shank Downsizing

VersaBar^® shanks (solid carbide) are 3X more rigid than steel shanks, which allows for shank downsizing. For example:

.500" steel shank can be downsized to .375" VersaBar^® shank
.625" steel shank can be downsized to .500" VersaBar^® shank
.750" steel shank can be downsized to .625" VersaBar^® shank
1.00" steel shank can be downsized to .750" VersaBar^® shank
1.25" steel shank can be downsized to 1.00" VersaBar^® shank
1.50" steel shank can be downsized to 1.25" VersaBar^® shank

The downsized shank fits inside a smaller bore, which means the shank has greater part capability. The downsized shank also provides extra room for shavings, which is big plus.

Capto^® & KM Quick-Change

VersaBar^® shanks adapt easily to machines setup with quick-change. All that is necessary is a standard boring bar holder (Capto^® or KM shank) and a split sleeve bushing. VersaBar^® 5:1 (L/D) coolant fed shanks combine excellent performance with enhanced bore depth capability. From a cost perspective, there is no comparison. VersaBar^® shanks are priced at a fraction of much higher cost 5:1 damped bars (i.e. Silent^®, Whisperline^®, Kennametal Anti-Vibration) with integral Capto^® or KM shanks. Improved Pocket Life

Ever wonder why your fixed-pocket carbide bars wear out so quickly? It's not your imagination. The culprit to blame is the soft pocket. Unfortunately, this is the nature of the beast. Head hardness is removed during the brazing process (brazing involves heating the tool to about 1300º F then slow cooling). Slow cooling anneals the hardness to a lesser or greater degree.
